Which System is Right for Me?
Choosing the right
system is the most important step in the entire process of
laser
epilation,
tattoo removal and general dermatology. The following guide
will help you match the correct system with the general
criteria necessary for successful usage.
What
Is Your Skill Level? If you are new to laser
epilation it is advisable that you consider the
DM4000,
SPL-300 or the
SDL-15 machines first. These systems
are very easy to operate and give excellent results. The
output power is ideal for safe and effective laser epilation
but is not intended for tattoo removal or general dermatology.
Speed of Treatment: You will want to go
with a larger beam size combined with greater energy density
(fluence) if you are working on large areas to increase
efficiency. The SDL-30,
SDL-50 and
SPL-600 systems are perfectly suited for rapid and
efficient laser epilation and can clear a woman's legs or a
man's back in just about 30 to 60 minutes. They are also
capable of doing tattoo removal on most dark inks.
The DM4000,
LD15K and
SPL-300 require a greater investment of time into the
treatment to clear large areas, and are best suited for
limited areas such as the bikini-line or face.

How Much Power Do You Need, and for What Procedures?
The general rule of thumb is 30-120 total
joules per cm2/sec.
for a QCW Pulsed Diode Laser or Super Pulsed Light System.
Applying more than 180jcm2/sec. could burn your skin (while
doing little 'additional damage' to the follicle).
This makes the SDL-100,
SPL-800 and SD-PL
Hybrid units are best left to professionals due to the
increase in expertise required to use them.
SDL-100,
SPL-800, and SD-PL Hybrid units are
intended for all levels of permanent hair reduction, tattoo
removal on all ink tones, age spot removal, wrinkle reduction,
photo-facial procedures and general dermatology.
How Fast Do These Systems Clear Large Areas? For the sake of general comparison, we will look at a 60 square inch (moderately covered) treatment area. This is the equivalent of the average man's chest or woman's lower legs.
Entry Level: permanent hair reduction
procedures only
DM4000: 240 minutes of treatment
SDL-15: 60 minutes of treatment
SDL-50: 30 minutes of treatment
SPL-300: 30 minutes of treatment
Professional Level: epilation,
dark tattoo removal and general dermatology
SDL-80: 20 minutes
of treatment
SPL-600: 20 minutes of treatment
Professional Level: epilation,
all tattoo removal and general dermatology
SDL-100: 15
minutes of treatment
SPL-800: 15 minutes of treatment
SD-PL Hybrid: 15 minutes of treatment
Based upon these general
characteristics it is our recommendation that the
DM4000 be
used for limited facial areas, bikini line and ear hair etc.
The SDL-15 is best suited for larger
(but also limited) areas such as underarms, extensive facial
hair and beard removal as well as hairline contouring.
The SDL-30 and
SPL-300 are ideal for large
(unlimited) areas such as chest, back, legs etc. but not for
tattoo removal or general dermatology due to the limitation on
fluence to under 120jcm2..
The SDL-80 and
SPL-600 units are ideal for all
areas of the face and body for epilation and best used by
professionals who treat multiple clients per day. These
systems are also suitable for general cosmetology, tattoo
removal on most inks.
The SDL-100,
SPL-800 and SD-PL Hybrid are
intended for professionals who demand the highest level of
performance and versatility such as Physicians.
These systems will perform all photo-epilation and laser/light
based dermatology procedures.
Device Classification:
Epilators are class 1 medical
devices. Non-invasive cosmetic procedures, such as laser
hair removal, are generally classified as 'exempt' from requirements
which regulate electrolysis procedures. In most areas a
license or certification is not required to buy or use these
systems.
